Love Comes Softly Across the Generations
The original film, Love Comes Softly, chronicles a marriage of convenience that develops into much more than that. When Marty Claridge loses her husband shortly after moving out West, she marries widower Clark Davis in order to survive the harsh winter. A marriage of mutual convenience, Marty tries to nurture Clark’s young daughter, Missie and keeps house for the Davis family—all while pregnant with her late husband’s unborn child. The winter brings rough spots and challenges, but also a growing respect and developing bond, first between Marty and Missie and later between Marty and Clark. The feeling of family and the comfort of shared hardships help them form a family bond, and, eventually a love that both Marty and Clark had thought they’d never experience again.
In Love's Enduring Promise, the sequel to Jannete Oke’s Love Comes Softly, the new Christian family movie and drama focuses in on Missie, who is now 20. Each subsequent Christian movie takes the drama into another generation or setting, but the abiding message of love, growth, personal development, dreams lost and recovered, and overcoming life’s difficulties persevere.
Family Entertainment
What ever happened to wholesome family entertainment? When did primetime start marking the hour when we have to get our kids away from the TV so that they don’t see something they’re too young to watch? Why does seemingly every show have to push the envelop of what’s considered good taste?
Not so with Love Comes Softly and the entire series created from Janette Oke’s beloved books and the vision of Michael Landon Jr. The entire series of Christian dramas the Hallmark Channel aired all deal with very real-to-life issues of life and love—all without inappropriate scenes, bad language, or morally compromising situations. Remembering a time when people actually tried to act properly and respect one another, these Christian movies don’t hide from the challenging issues of life—but they also don’t wallow in the mud and scum of humanity to make their point. These uplifting movies are what family entertainment is all about.
For everyone who fondly remembers family dramas like Touched by an Angel, Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, Little House on the Prairie, or other uplifting and inspirational dramas, the Love Comes Softly series offers a chance to leave behind the demented dramas of the networks and choose instead something enjoyable for the whole family. Travel back to simpler, more wholesome times with Love Comes Softly.
