Jesse's 15th birthday is coming up and the only thing she wants is a horse!  Without letting Jesse know, her mom Brandy is doing through a nightmare cancer diagnosis and her father is going through unexpected troubles.  He plans to put Jesse in summer camp, but when that falls through, he is left with sending her to stay with her estranged grandpa, a rough old horse trainer who they call Gauff.  Gauff's favorite horse Grace had recently died and he's still recovering, negotiating with a teenager is not what he had in mind for his summer either!
